Duties and Responsibilities
In 2024, ESCAP initiated a project titled “Promoting crop biodiversity through innovative space applications (CropBio) to promote crop diversity in selected South-East Asia countries through innovative use of space applications. The key expected results include: - Enhanced knowledge and data availability in three sub-national locations in three target countries to assess and monitor the state of crop diversity. - Enhanced capacity of space agencies and partner universities in the three target countries to develop satellite-derived tools to assess and monitor the state of crop diversity. As a pioneering initiative with strong potential for scaling up, information and knowledge management is a core project strategy. It plays a vital role in collecting, maintaining, and disseminating lessons learned and knowledge generated throughout the project lifecycle. As outlined in the project document, the key strategies include: - Knowledge Repository: Good practices that will emerge from the project will be captured in the ESCAP Geospatial Database and Dashboard (https://www.unescap.org/our-work/ictdisaster-risk-reduction/geospatial-good-practices-database-and-dashboard#) so they can be shared with other countries. - Documentation of tools, methodologies and tools: To provide practical insights into the project’s legacy products, impact, challenges encountered, and solutions developed and feed into activities A1.2.3 and A.1.2.5. - Collaboration with CKMS: Coordination with Communication and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS) will ensure that the project’s communication products are in alignment with ESCAP’s overall communication strategy and branding guidelines. IDD is also implementing technical assistance to increase innovation, including digitally driven adoption by countries, to enable transformative adaptation to climate change under the Regional Programme on Technical Cooperation. Under output 2, the technical assistance aims to train at least 15 young professionals to augment use of geospatial data for transformative adaptation to climate change (aligned with result 1 of subprogramme 5).
