Duties and Responsibilities

The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system, and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The UN-REDD Programme is the United Nations’ flagship partnership for advancing REDD+ readiness, implementation, and results-based payments, jointly led by FAO, UNDP, and UNEP. It supports countries in strengthening forest governance, reducing emissions from deforestation and forest degradation, and unlocking nature-based climate solutions. As part of this work in the Asia-Pacific, compelling communication products are needed to showcase results, highlight voices from communities and partners, and engage audiences at national, regional, and global levels. Multimedia storytelling—including short videos, testimonial packages, and explainers will play a central role in amplifying impact and visibility. The objective of this consultancy is to provide professional multimedia and video production support to UN-REDD team, ensuring delivery of high-quality, branded video packages and testimonial stories that: Showcase the impact of social forestry enterprises and REDD+ efforts in ASEAN and the Asia Pacific. Elevate voices of community members, youth and women leaders, government counterparts, donors, and technical partners. Provide UNEP/UN-REDD with versatile content for use in policy dialogues, media outreach, and digital campaigns. The consultant will report to the UN-REDD Project Coordinator and work directly with the UN-REDD Communications Expert for UNEP Asia Pacific, and in coordination with the ASEAN Social Forestry team and UN-REDD's communications team. The consultant will be responsible for: 1. Video Production & Editing o Create and edit video packages and standalone testimonial videos from content provided by UNEP and partners. o Produce five (5) final edited packages, including at least one explainer that combines multiple testimonials from community members, donors, youth and women leaders, and government stakeholders. o Incorporate UNEP/UN-REDD branding, subtitles, and templates in line with corporate guidelines. 2. Supplementary Content Development o Provide additional B-rolls and infographics where needed to ensure narrative richness and visual appeal. o Refine and adapt scripts provided by UNEP to strengthen storytelling, flow, and audience resonance. 3. Technical Support & Advisory o Offer technical advice on recording interviews, testimonials, and background footage. o Recommend approaches to optimize sound, lighting, and framing to maintain professional production standards. 4. Deliverables The consultant will deliver the following outputs: Five (5) final edited video packages (4–7 minutes each): o One explainer video combining multiple testimonials. o Four standalone testimonial or story packages (community members, donors, youth leaders, government stakeholders). Subtitled versions of all videos in English. Additional B-rolls and infographic elements are integrated into the videos. Guidance for UNEP/partners on best practices for capturing field content. All final edited files provided to UNEP/UN-REDD in agreed formats.

Qualifications/special skills

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Multimedia and communication is required. A high school degree with proven technical experience in lieu of education demonstrated through a portfolio of work is required. Experience: A minimum of seven years of experience in video editing and multimedia production is required Experience of working at country level in the Asia Pacific region is also required. Experience producing content for international organizations, preferably in the fields of environment, climate change, or sustainable development is desirable. Experience with motion graphics, subtitling, and infographic integration is desirable. Familiarity with UNEP/UN system branding an asset. Skills: Strong practical background on communications is required. Standard computer software application literacy is required. Proven track record in professional video production, editing, and multimedia storytelling is desirable. Strong technical skills in editing software (Adobe Premiere, After Effects, Final Cut, etc.) is desirable. A demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations, knowledge of the United Nations system and a personal commitment to the ideals of the United Nations Charter is desirable. Ability to work under tight deadlines and deliver polished outputs is desirable.
