Our Middle School Program

The Middle School at International School Bangkok (ISB) offers a well-rounded US curriculum experience in Thailand that balances care, challenge, choice, and opportunity to foster personal and academic growth. Our international middle school serves grades 6-8 (ages 11-14) providing a balance of care, challenge, choice, and opportunity to help students grow.

Our globally-minded curriculum aligns with international standards while meeting students at their level. Alongside core subjects of English, Social Studies, Math, Science, World Languages, and PE, students explore music, arts, design, and more.

Position Overview

ISB seeks a Middle School English/Social Studies Maternity Leave Substitute who applies research-proven instructional practices through a strong understanding of the science of reading and the C3 Framework. ISB MS teachers design engaging, inquiry-based lessons that develop literacy, critical thinking, and content-specific skills across English and the social studies disciplines, while differentiating instruction to support diverse learners. Collaboration and response to student learning data are essential.

Beyond the classroom, the teacher contributes to curriculum development, collaborative school improvement, co-curricular programs, and ISB's mission and Core Values to develop socially and globally competent, academically-prepared learners.

Core Responsibilities

• Provide meaningful, intentional learning opportunities aligned with the practices, standards, benchmarks, and learning outcomes of the ISB curriculum, as well as its Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Community of Practice.

• Actively participate in collaborative team meetings with a growth mindset and a focus on improving learning for all students.

• Partner with counselors, administrators, and other staff to ensure care and support for students' social, emotional, and learning success.

• Assess student learning and provide timely, quality feedback to improve student learning.

• Adjust instruction based on students' learning needs using a data-informed approach.

• Demonstrate skill in differentiating instruction to support students requiring extension and enrichment as well as those needing additional support.

• Engage in professional development to ensure research-supported practices in the instruction and care of children are used at ISB.

• Communicate directly and collaboratively with parents or guardians to positively support student learning and/or well-being.

• Positively contribute to school culture through positivity, care for others, and a shared sense of purpose and community.

• Maintain a mindset of high expectations facilitated through systems of high support.

Other Duties

• Support student participation and connection through sponsorship of a student club or non-stipended extracurricular activity.

• Mentor and support students through the Advisory program to foster community, build SEL and academic skills, and connect with students in positive, professional ways.

Required

Qualifications

• Hold a valid teaching license or certification

• Have experience with, and a belief in, an inquiry approach to teaching and learning

• Have experience teaching English Language Learners

• Have experience using data to inform instruction through a Professional Learning Community (PLC)

Candidate Profile

The ideal candidate is invested in pedagogical best practices, models ISB's professional standards (Integrity, Responsibility, Respect, Care, Collaboration, and Commitment), demonstrates open-mindedness and warmth, exhibits a sense of humor, and models engagement with global issues. They have experience with standards-based assessment, the C3 Framework, cross-disciplinary literacy collaboration, and teaching humanities to middle schoolers. Additionally, they are expected to participate in evening and weekend school events, engage actively in the school's curricular and co-curricular life, chaperone multi-day student trips, and share lunchtime supervision duties.

Terms of Employment

• Start date: Third week of September 2026 to early October 2026
