Who You'll Work With
You will be based in our Bangkok, Hong Kong or Singapore office as part of the core data privacy team, led by McKinsey's Global Data Privacy Officer. You will help lead and mature our data privacy program in the Asia-Pacific region.
You will report to the global data privacy officer and the Asia-Pacific head of legal. You will also work closely with other privacy team members, members of the legal department, and McKinsey's functional leaders and businesses globally. You will work closely and collaboratively with team members across McKinsey including those in cybersecurity, information technology, recruiting, human resources, finance and client relationship management. You will actively support McKinsey's client-facing lines of business, particularly consulting teams, as one of the legal department's subject matter expert in data privacy matters.
You will help evolve McKinsey's global approach to data privacy including playing a key role in shaping McKinsey's compliance, governance and strategy efforts in Asia-Pacific. As the lead for data protection strategy and compliance within the region, you will keep abreast of key developments in the fields of data privacy law, regulation and technology in the geolocations in Asia in which we operate, and to provide direction as well as day to day support on these topics across McKinsey's businesses.
What You'll Do
You'll be the main data privacy legal point of contact for client service teams including legal and risk teams in the region supporting the team with client negotiations and general data privacy advice with a focus on Asia-Pacific privacy laws.
In this role, you'll review and negotiate contractual arrangements with McKinsey's clients, collaborators and vendors, with a particular emphasis and as an escalation point on data privacy matters for colleagues across McKinsey. You'll assess, monitor and work towards compliance with data laws across Asia-Pacific and including without limitation, China and India and amendments to existing Asia-Pacific privacy laws (e.g., Japan).
You'll provide data privacy legal support to the HR and recruiting function. You'll provide localized data privacy support for cyber related and data risk or incidents. You'll lead or participate in complex and/or cross-functional data privacy projects for a global firm with a diverse and evolving range of business lines and internal functions. You'll contribute to leadership and guidance in connection with the continued maturation of its privacy functions.
You'll develop privacy guidance for leadership in connection with important strategic opportunities and liaising and coordinating with other functions within McKinsey to ensure privacy is appropriately identified and addressed as part of new projects and initiatives. You'll assist in the creation of privacy and security governance documentation (e.g., FAQs, guidelines, policies). You'll review McKinsey's privacy program and performance on an ongoing basis to ensure continued maturation in Asia-Pacific and in a manner commensurate with business and strategic priorities, applicable law and industry best practices.
Qualifications
- Qualified lawyer
- 5+ years of professional experience with a law firm, in-house legal department or organization with a privacy, cybersecurity and data risk management focus
- 2+ years of practical operational experience in privacy, preferably with a global or multinational organization
- Strong background in information security/cybersecurity and technology including working collaboratively with technical experts in these areas
- Excellent interpersonal skills to interface and cooperate with and counsel business leaders, peers and team members
- Excellent team player with a keen ability to apply business and risk judgment on tight schedules
- Strong and effective writing and communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills; ability to handle high volume of work efficiently, recognize priorities, manage time effectively and meet deadlines
- Ability to work independently with moderate supervision in a decentralized, challenging and fast-paced environment
- Inspiring team player who collaborates effectively within cross-functional and fast-paced team environment and proactively builds collective knowledge and capabilities
