Commissioning & System Readiness

  • Lead commissioning, loop checking, functional testing and system integration of instrumentation and control systems.
  • Ensure timely closure of punch points, interface gaps, calibration issues and vendor-related technical concerns.
  • Confirm instrumentation readiness for safe startup through proper documentation, testing and handover controls.

Control Systems & Process Safety

  • Ensure reliable performance of DCS, PLC, BMS, alarms, interlocks, permissives, trips and safeguarding functions
  • Coordinate with Process, Production, Utilities, and Electrical teams for logic validation and multidisciplinary troubleshooting.
  • Maintain strict control over logic modifications, bypasses, and system changes through authorized Management of Change procedures.

Startup, Ramp-Up & Reliability Improvement

  • Provide instrumentation leadership during plant startup, process stabilization and production ramp-up.
  • Resolve recurring failures involving field instruments, control elements, communication systems and control-system interfaces.
  • Lead root cause analysis and implement sustainable corrective actions to improve system reliability and plant availability.

Maintenance & Calibration Management

  • Establish and govern preventive, predictive, breakdown and calibration maintenance programs through SAP.
  • Ensure maintenance of accurate equipment history, calibration records, critical spares and statutory documentation.
  • Monitor equipment health and maintenance performance to reduce scheduled and unexpected production losses.

Team, Vendor & Contractor Management

  • Provide technical direction, work priorities, and performance guidance to the Instrumentation team.
  • Develop capable local vendors and coordinate OEM support for specialized troubleshooting, repairs, and system upgrades.
  • Ensure contractors comply with approved technical specifications, quality requirements, and Birla Carbon Safety Standards.

CAPEX/OPEX Improvements & Digitalization

  • Support assigned CAPEX and OPEX initiatives involving instrumentation, automation, control-system modifications, and reliability improvements.
  • Evaluate appropriate technologies and digital solutions to improve diagnostics, monitoring, accuracy and maintenance efficiency.
  • Ensure safe installation, testing, commissioning, documentation and handover of implemented improvements

Safety, Compliance & Performance Reporting

  • Ensure instrumentation activities comply with PTW, LOTO, electrical safety, process safety, and applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain control-system backups, access controls, change records, drawings, logic documents, and calibration traceability.
  • Review instrumentation KPIs, critical defects, bypass status, maintenance compliance, and improvement actions with site management.


Qualification

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation, Electronics, Control & Automation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 10-15 years of relevant experience in instrumentation and control systems within a continuous process, chemical, petrochemical, carbon black, power, or heavy manufacturing plant.
  • Proven experience in instrumentation commissioning, plant startup, stabilization, maintenance, reliability improvement and team leadership.
  • Exposure to Power Plant instrumentation, Burner Management Systems and high-volume field instrumentation is preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of DCS, PLC, process instrumentation, control systems, automation and industrial communication protocols.
  • Expertise in instrument commissioning, loop checking, calibration, logic validation, troubleshooting, and maintenance management.
  • Sound understanding of process safety systems, including alarms, interlocks, permissives, trips, shutdown logic, bypass control and Management of Change.
  • Proficiency in SAP Plant Maintenance and MS Office, with strong capability in technical analysis, documentation, maintenance planning and performance reporting.
