The Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) is the most inclusive intergovernmental platform in the Asia-Pacific region. The Commission promotes cooperation among its 53 member States and 9 associate members in pursuit of solutions to sustainable development challenges. ESCAP is one of the five regional commissions of the United Nations.
The ESCAP secretariat supports inclusive, resilient and sustainable development in the region by generating action-oriented knowledge, and by providing technical assistance and capacity-building services in support of national development objectives, regional agreements and the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. ESCAP also provides support to partners at the national level. ESCAP's national offer is rooted in and linked with the implementation of global and regional intergovernmental frameworks, agreements, and other instruments.
This position is located in the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS), in the Office of the Deputy Executive Secretary for Programme Support (ODESPS). The intern works under the supervision of the Chief of CKMS and the Website Officer.
The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of 3-6 months. Interns work five days per week (37.5 hours).
Interns will gain first-hand experience with regard to the activities of ESCAP in website, strategic communications, public information, digital outreach and knowledge management. They will also gain a greater understanding of how the ESCAP works and its range of activities in the Asia-Pacific region.

Responsibilities
The internship is centred on assisting the Communications and Knowledge Management Section (CKMS) in discharging a range of tasks related to strategic communications and public information as well as multimedia, website/information management and knowledge management to raise the organization's visibility. The following responsibilities can be adapted, as appropriate, to fit each intern.
  • Assisting with the creation and updating of website content;
  • Assisting in the design and development of websites;
  • Taking photos of events, when required;
  • Carrying out and/or initiating tasks/special projects.

Education

Applicants must be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
or be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
or have graduated with a university degree (and if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.
Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charterand backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views. Knowledge of Adobe Creative Studio, Drupal, HTML and CSS are desirable.

Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

REMOTE INTERNSHIPS (COVID-19): In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises.
