Role Overview

The Style & Training Specialist is a hybrid field role that sits at the intersection of in-store sales support and team development. This person is the brand's most knowledgeable styling resource on the floor — not as a direct salesperson, but as a coach and enabler who makes every Sales Associate better at styling customers. Working closely with both the Buying team and branch management, this role ensures that seasonal product knowledge is translated into practical, actionable styling skills across all stores.

Key Responsibilities

  • In-Store Styling Support (approx. 60%)
  • Co-style alongside Sales Associates during live customer interactions — demonstrating best practices without replacing the SA's role
  • Handle styling consultations for customers with complex needs: body proportion concerns, occasion dressing, wardrobe building, and lifestyle-based outfit curation
  • Provide real-time, constructive feedback to SAs after each interaction, highlighting strengths and coaching on gaps
  • Observe and document recurring styling gaps across branches and report patterns to management — not just individual cases
  • Training & Coaching (approx. 40%)
  • Design and deliver micro-training sessions within branches on styling fundamentals:
  • Body proportion and silhouette dressing
  • Color coordination and tone matching
  • Outfit building from current season's product range
  • Occasion-appropriate styling
  • Create practical styling reference materials for branch use: look books per collection, quick-reference styling cards, and pairing guides
  • Track individual SA styling skill development over time and adjust coaching plans accordingly
  • Collaborate with Visual Merchandising to align floor display direction with styling guidance
  • Product Buying team Collaboration & Seasonal Planning
  • Attend seasonal product briefings with Buying team to understand key products, hero items, and collection direction
  • Translate product briefs into seasonal styling training plans — e.g., if key product is Flare Jeans, develop a full styling guide covering compatible tops, footwear, body types, and occasions
  • Produce seasonal styling guides per key product for branch distribution before product arrives in store
  • Feedback commercial insights to the Buying team: identify products that customers hesitate on due to styling uncertainty, providing actionable data on assortment gaps or unclear wearability

Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Fashion, Fashion Merchandising, Styling, or a related field preferred
  • Equivalent professional experience will be considered

Experience

  • Minimum 2–3 years of experience in fashion retail, personal styling, or a brand-facing fashion role
  • Demonstrated experience in coaching, mentoring, or training others — formal or informal
  • Prior exposure to seasonal buying or product briefing processes is an advantage

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong practical knowledge of styling principles: body proportions, color theory, occasion dressing, layering, and outfit building
  • Ability to read a product brief and develop training content from it independently
  • Natural coaching mindset — genuinely motivated by helping others succeed, not by personal recognition on the floor
  • Sharp observational skills — quickly identifies skill gaps in others and styling opportunities with customers
  • Approachable communication style that puts both customers and junior staff at ease
  • Adaptable communicator — able to shift tone and language between customers, store staff, and management
  • Comfortable working cross-functionally with buying, VM, and operations teams

Personal Attributes

  • Self-motivated and organized — manages multiple branches and deliverables simultaneously
  • Passion for fashion and genuine interest in helping others develop their styling confidence
  • Collaborative team player with a low ego — this role is about building others up, not standing out alone

What Success Looks Like

  • Sales Associates across branches can style customers with confidence and without needing assistance
  • Seasonal key products are introduced with a clear styling plan before they hit the floor
  • Customer styling satisfaction improves, reflected in conversion rates and basket size
  • Feedback loops to the Buying team provide commercially useful insights each season
