Director of Finance

Who You'll Work With

You'll be based in one of our Southeast Asia offices and report into the director of finance for Asia.
You'll collaborate with firm members across the region and other finance pillars. You'll lead the finance function with the day-to-day management of the finance team across Southeast Asia locations including performance reporting, working capital management, tax compliance, etc.
You'll review and refine the offices operating model with cell leadership. You'll be a thought partner to the office manager, finance partner and location managers. You'll be an active member of the office operating committee and client and investment committee.
You'll support the office manager and partners in determining office strategy, particularly in terms of the financial impact on the office and support various initiatives determined from time to time, and drive economic performance improvement.
You'll work closely with the commercial desk and client finance teams to ensure best practice in contracting and working capital management is adopted and the partners and client service teams (CSTs) are well supported. You'll work with firm treasury to ensure firm cash management policies are adopted and with the corporate tax team to ensure tax compliance in accordance with local laws.
You'll ensure the smooth running of all external administrative interactions across the office e.g., with the various government and regulatory bodies, tax, corporate registrations etc. working closely with the heads of human resources, IT, administration, and professional development. You'll manage the real estate portfolio including rent negotiations and sourcing new locations together with the firm's real estate team. You'll be responsible for the office disaster recovery and business continuity plans in conjunction with the firm's crisis management team. You'll work closely with the firm's travel team, managing the external travel company including reviewing travel and making sure that the office travel and expense policy is current and followed.


What You'll Do

You'll provide counsel and advice to a wide group of stakeholders on matters with financial implications.
You'll safeguard the firm through evolving, deploying, and actioning controls which deliver effective stewardship. You'll deploy standard approaches which allow for the efficient processing of transactions whilst fulfilling our fiduciary obligations. You'll develop, retain, and advance a team of high caliber finance professionals.
You'll focus on pricing, investments, NVAs, import/export mix, leverage and OPEX management - the key elements that drive overall cell performance. You'll professionalize approach on commercial arrangements and engagement management. You'll support a global finance transformation which includes building local finance capabilities.
You'll coach, develop, evaluate, and mentor the finance team, leverage and distribute activities to provide opportunities for growth, while at the same time identifying successors.
You'll report on the key economic levers highlighting and monitoring working capital and investment (and leakage) levels, costs, activity levels (particularly trends at the sector and functional reporting level).
You'll drive the planning and budgeting process, covering support staff projections, expense analysis and management, then tracking and reporting. This task includes reviewing pricing and pricing models, activity levels to ensure recruiting targets look reasonable and tie back to planned utilization, and investment and leakage levels are planned and contained.
You'll manage and monitor the office balance sheet to ensure all accounts are reconciled, reconciling items are cleared on a timely basis and the balance sheet stands up to scrutiny by the firm's internal and external auditors. You'll help ensure compensation and benefits programs (including mobility benefits) are structured and delivered as efficiently and tax effectively as possible.


Qualifications

  • University degree, with post degree qualifications
  • 10+ years of financial/administrative management experience, ideally in a professional services firm, blue-chip corporate or equivalent McKinsey consulting experience
  • Knowledge of core finance and accounting principles with specific finance and/or management qualifications eg. CA, CPA, MBA
  • Broad business acumen, with senior presence and ability to develop strong collaborative relationships with senior executives/leaders
  • Excellent problem solving, analytic and project management skills
  • Outstanding communication, influencing and negotiation skills
  • Strong leader and people developer and able to interface with people at all levels
  • Collaborative with integrative working style
  • Rapid to adapt to a changing and ambiguous environment
