Analyst - Asia Banking Performance Accelerator (ABPA)

Who You'll Work With

You'll be based in our Hanoi/ HCMC, Bangkok or Jakarta office, and be part of the Asia Banking Performance Accelerator (ABPA) hub, focusing on delivering deep expertise on select transformation topics to Asia banking clients. ABPA is an expert consulting team and a unit of the fast growing Asia Banking Practice. We are also open to non-local candidates as well as candidates based in India who are willing to relocate.


What You'll Do

You'll focus on building expertise on select transformation themes in the banking industry and accelerating client impact by delivering your expertise in line with clients' needs across the current ABPA priorities, which include broad-based retail and SME banking transformations, conceptualizing fintech, and payments platforms, driving analytics-led transformation and building digital capabilities in banking.
In this role, you will work as part of client service teams to consult top management at client organizations in engagements that deliver transformational impact at scale. You will lead agreed workstreams, drive day-to-day analyses and problem-solving, and manage junior consultants and client project teams where necessary for your workstreams.
Additionally, as a member of McKinsey's global network, you will integrate insights from internal and external specialists as well as develop expertise and thought-leadership in select transformation topics. You will be an important source of intellectual insights on a client engagement, help frame business problems in a way that the team can then execute to drive impact and client value. You will help develop distinctive proprietary knowledge and tools on select topics of client interest and buildup the Banking knowledge base in Asia.
You will support Asia banking and ABPA leadership in identifying and developing new client opportunities to advise them on business transformations and capability building. Lastly, you will bring in deep functional knowledge and proprietary tools to every client development situation.


Qualifications

  • Advanced degree required, preferably a MBA or master's degree from a reputable institution with outstanding academic record
  • 3+ years of work experience, with a distinctive record of professional achievement and impact preferably in transformational projects, banking analytics space, financial services firms or ideally in consulting with a top tier consulting firm
  • Experience related to retail, WAM, payments or SME commercial banking, with functional expertise across business management, strategy or transformation, sales analytics, credit modelling and analyses or data analytics a plus
  • Track record of ease in approaching issues from a top management view and discussing them in the overall context of a business.
  • Ability to absorb rapidly and grapple with a wide range of complex business issues
  • Outstanding problem solving skills, including the ability to disaggregate issues, develop hypotheses and actionable recommendations from data and analysis.
  • Experience with hands-on analyses and adept with typical analytical tools like excel, complemented by a practical sense of what works in a complex organization
  • Experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams to collectively deliver solutions in complex and high demand situations; ability to coach and guide and new colleagues and introduce expert-based capabilities and knowledge within the team.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially directed to senior executive audience
  • Good understanding of the business models and value drivers, and industry contexts of one or more sectors of financial institutions: public or private-sector banks, asset management, credit card and payment companies and regulatory bodies
  • Experience in working with cross-functional teams, and in-depth of knowledge involvement in helping frame, design and execute solutions for challenging business situations will be highly relevant
