Head of Public Policy, Thailand, AWS Global Public Policy

  • 8-10 years of experience representing a large company or organization (e.g. trade or industry association) on policy advocacy and government affairs matters with policymakers and government stakeholders at the national and local levels.
  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline (e.g. Law, Political Science, Public Policy, Public Affairs, Economic Development).
  • Fluent in written and spoken English and Thai.
Would you like to be part of a public policy team that is driving the adoption of cloud computing in Southeast Asia? The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Public Policy team is at the forefront of helping customers maximize the benefits of cloud computing by removing regulatory and political blockers to cloud adoption. We do this by working with governments as they develop and revise policies related to the digital economy, including cloud first policies, data protection regulations, outsourcing guidelines, cyber security policies, tax policy, and over-the-top (OTT) regulations.
AWS is looking for a talented individual to serve as the Head of Public Policy for Thailand. Reporting to the Head of Public Policy for ASEAN, this individual will represent AWS before policymakers and government stakeholders in the country. The successful candidate will proactively build relationships with key policymakers, government stakeholders and influencers, and will interface directly with the business units to become familiar with all aspects of AWS business.
Key job responsibilities
  • Develop, lead and implement government affairs and policy strategies for AWS to help facilitate an enabling environment for cloud adoption in the country.
  • Advance the company's policy positions directly and through industry associations to enable a transparent and technology-friendly regulatory environment for cloud computing in emerging industries in the country.
  • Assess and communicate potential regulatory threats and government sector business opportunities, develop mitigation or enhancement strategies and policy positions, and coordinate external advocacy and outreach programs and key initiatives.
  • Facilitate meetings between AWS executives and key stakeholders, including government officials, regulators, industry associations and alliance partners to promote advocacy positions.
  • Raise awareness among government officials, policymakers and regulators on the cloud value proposition in regulated industries, such as but not limited to health, energy, telecommunications, and the financial services sector.
  • Work collaboratively and transparently with the business units to ensure alignment between public policy goals and core business objectives.
  • Seek collaboration with government and public affairs stakeholders on skills development activities.
  • Participate and contribute to appropriate corporate membership opportunities in industry associations on behalf of AWS.
  • Able to manage external consultants with high judgment and integrity.

  • Excellent understanding of the country's political landscape at a national, provincial and local level. Able to dive deep on political, legislative and regulatory trends that may impact AWS businesses, and to synthesize policy documents for internal and external customers.
  • A strong understanding of IT issues in the country (such as cloud computing, cyber security, data protection, trade, taxes, and e-commerce).
  • Demonstrated track-record of achieving meaningful changes to the legislative and regulatory environment through public policy advocacy.
  • Highly effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. A strong track record of engaging with government ministries and agencies in ICT, financial services, health, energy regulators, and policy makers at the executive and working levels.
  • Inquisitive, enthusiastic about technology, and able to demonstrate sound judgment in ambiguous situations.
  • Effective research and analytical skills to develop and support policy positions.
  • Effective time-management skills, including ability to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams.
  • Maintain highest personal levels of ethical conduct, confidentiality and integrity, with a strong professional reputation in the industry.
