Duties and ResponsibilitiesThrough ESCAP Resolution (E/ESCAP/RES/72/6) on "Committing to the effective implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in Asia and the Pacific" member States have requested ESCAP's support in promoting the balanced integration of the three dimensions of sustainable development and in providing annual updates and recommendations to member States. The resolution also calls for ESCAP to develop a regional road map for implementing the 2030 Agenda and to address challenges to its achievement in Asia and the Pacific. The support is provided, among other modalities, through the provision of opportunities for a regional and sub-regional dialogue on SDG implementation such as the Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD); and the development of knowledge products to track progress and support stakeholders' engagement.
As part of ESCAP role in supporting SDG implementation in the region, ESCAP Statistics Division (SD) has developed statistical methods and tools to assess progress at the regional and sub-regional levels. The ESCAP-developed methodology is used to support the production of the annual Asia and the Pacific SDG Progress Report.
In order to improve data visualization for SDG progress assessment, SD is seeking the support of an external contractor to provide data visualization and graphic design services for the 2023 SDG Progress Report, propose publication layout for the Report and assist in the production of an interactive summary of the report in an online format. The deliverables are as follow:
1) Draft overall layout of the Report; propose options for cover page to be approved by ESCAP; propose improvements to visualization of main progress charts in Chapters 1 and 2; propose report layout consistent with the communication guidelines of ESCAP.
2) From the draft text and draft charts provided by ESCAP, arrange the text and graphical elements of the approved report layout, and visualize the data mentioned in the report.
3) Finalize the publication as a set of pdf and ready-to-print publication files.
a. Banners, icons and other artistic elements to be used on the web and social media to advertise the Report
b. PowerPoint slides with main charts and findings from the report (5 to 10 slides)
c. Promotional video for the report
Outputs to be developed by the contractor are to be used as input to the 2023 Asia-Pacific Forum on Sustainable Development (APFSD).
High school diploma or equivalent is required. University degree and/ higher education in communication technology with specialization in graphic design and/or web design would be an asset.
Experience in data visualization and in developing graphic designs for publications and advocacy materials is required.
Experience with producing publication within the UN system is an advantage.
Have a good command of English.
