Duties and Responsibilities

The Enterprise Solutions Service (ESS) of the United Nations Office of Information and Communication Technology develops and supports a wide range of internal enterprise applications.
We are looking for a Geospatial Application Developer (consultant) responsible for geospatial data management and GIS web mapping application development. He/she assists geospatial specialists, or related professionals in building, maintaining, modifying, or using geospatial database. May also perform custom GIS web/mobile mapping application development or provide technical support.
You will bring external experience in supporting geospatial information management and developing web/mobile applications to help build the capacity of the ESS team.
Responsibilities
  • Identifies and prepares geospatial data for use in a variety of applications and processes through the use of relevant techniques (data conversion) and scientific knowledge e.g. photogrammetry, cartography, remote sensing, surveying, geocoding.
  • Uses a variety of computer-aided tools in the preparation and maintenance of various types of maps, including geospatial software (Esri, open source, among others)
  • Manages and documents (metadata) geospatial datasets collated from different sources according to governance and quality standards for geospatial information.
  • Translates detailed programming specifications into executable code using approved development tools and programming standards.
  • Designs, builds and maintains geospatial applications (including web applications) offering functionality to internal and external users.
  • Carries out unit and functional tests using testing procedures to ensure compliance with design specifications and optimum performance.

Qualifications/special skills

Bachelor's degree or higher in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or IT-related fields. A first-level university degree in similar fields in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
geospatial data management
In depth understanding of ArcGIS development SDK and ArcGIS JavaScript API
3-year Experience in developing ETL tools with Python
Knowledge and demonstrated experience of geodatabase and geospatial data management is required
Knowledge and demonstrated experience of spatial data integration and web technology is required

Languages

Fluency in English is required.
