Head of Communications
atBritish Embassy BangkokThe main purpose of the job is to lead the team responsible for explaining and championing Britain to Thai audiences through media relations, digital outreach, scholarship programmes, events and strategic communications and marketing campaigns including the award-winning GREAT Britain campaign.
The British Embassy offers a competitive remuneration package, including salary, benefits, a leave entitlement, Health Insurance and full training. The job is linked to the British Embassy's Local Staff C4 grade with a salary of 100, 695 Thai Baht per month. For those not liable to tax the salary will be abated.
Employment offers are subject to successful clearance of pre-employment and security checks. Staff who are locally recruited by the British Embassy are subject to Terms and Conditions of Service according to local employment law.
No accommodation or relocation expenses are payable in connection with this position. You must have or be able to obtain work authorisation in Thailand in order to apply. Any costs related to obtaining or renewing permits and visas are the responsibility of the successful applicant.
Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted and invited to attend a competency-based panel interview. Interviews are expected to take place on the week commencing 19 September 2016.
The successful candidate should be able to commence work as soon as possible.
- Lead the communications team in delivering high quality results-driven communications through a creative approach to media relations, campaigns, event management, digital diplomacy, business and youth engagement.
- Ensure that the Embassy responds to fast-moving events with clear and considered press lines
- Prepare/advise the Ambassador, senior Embassy officials and visiting UK government officials on engagements with the Thai media; ensure that messaging (including blogs, op-eds and speeches) is of a high standard
- Advise on media and public engagement for ministerial and other high level visits to Thailand
- Think creatively to enhance the work of all parts of the Embassy (inc. trade, investment, consular, prosperity, political); encourage cross-Embassy working
- Provide advice and input for the embassy's internal communications to staff.
- Maintain a high standard of delivery from a motivated and talented team; directly line manage 2 members of the Communications team.
- Provide strategic support, training, and direction for the communications team at all times.
- Fluent in both written and spoken English and Thai languages
- At least five years' experience in communications, preferably with a governmental or international organisation, including developing effective communications strategies, relationship-building with media on and offline, presenting a case with confidence to senior colleagues, managing teams.
