Duties and Responsibilities
The Social Development Division consists of three sections namely: 1) Sustainable Demographic Transition Section (SDTS); 2) Sustainable Socio-economic Transformation Section (SETS) and 3) Gender Equality and Social Inclusion Section (GESIS), covering the thematic areas of inequality and social protection, population dynamics, ageing, migration, gender equality, disability and youth.
GESIS covers the thematic areas of gender equality and women's empowerment, gender mainstreaming and disability inclusion in all areas of ESCAP work. GESIS are a team made up of professional and general service staff with experience in diverse socioeconomic fields.
For this internship, GESIS is seeking an individual to support our communications work related to gender equality and disability inclusion. Communication is valued and team members are encouraged to think analytically and also find creative ways to address problems.

Responsibilities

- Drafting content for public information materials, including social media, website
- Producing multimedia material, including infographics, presentation slides, event flyers,
- Coordinating internal communications with ESCAP's gender focal point network,
focal point meetings;
- Conducting research and compiling information for use in the preparation and production
- Assisting in organizing and convening events including commemorations, meetings,
- Assisting with photography and video coverage when required.
- Perform other duties as might be assigned by the Chief of Section.

Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must, at the time of application, meet one of the following requirements:
(a) Be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or,
(b) Be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
For this position, the applicant should have:

Studies in communications, social science, economics or other relevant areas required.

UN Competencies required for the internship:

- Related practical experience working with digital communication tools, including social

- Related experience creating content for digital publishing including adapting briefing
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to translate complex research into common language.

Studies in communications, social science, economics or other relevant areas required.

Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset.

In the context of ongoing construction at the ESCAP premise, internships may be undertaken remotely or in Bangkok. The location of the internship is to be decided on with the hiring manager.
