Duties and Responsibilities
The UN Secretary-General launched on 1 January 2019 a bold and new global reform which repositioned the UN Development System to deliver more effectively and efficiently with the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals. Development Coordination Office (DCO) provides managerial and oversight functions for the Resident Coordinator system. It is based in New York, with regional teams in Addis Ababa, Amman, Bangkok, Istanbul and Panama, supporting 130 Resident Coordinators covering 162 countries and territories. At the regional level, DCO serves as first port of call for Resident Coordinators and their offices. They also serve with UNDP and the Regional Commissions as part of the joint secretariats for the Regional Collaborative Platforms and ensure connectivity between global and country level initiatives. This position is in the regional office of DCO in Bangkok. The internship is UNPAID and full-time for the duration of three (3) months with an opportunity for extension up to (6) six months if required by the office. Interns work five days per week (35 hours). This intern will report to the Team Lead and will support the regional office. The intern will gain first-hand experience supporting the regional team’s communications and advocacy efforts across Asia and the Pacific. This includes assisting with public outreach and organizational inreach, contributing to multimedia content creation and digital communications, and supporting visibility initiatives that highlight the UN’s contributions and coordinated development efforts in the region. The intern will also support media monitoring and tracking of regional and global coverage related to key development and geopolitical trends, helping to inform timely communications, messaging, and strategic outreach by the DCO Regional Office and Resident Coordinator Offices (RCOs) across the region.
Qualifications/special skills
Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor’s degree or equivalent). Applicants to the UN Internship Programme are not required to have professional work. experience. However, a field of study that is closely related to the type of internship that you are applying for is required. Do you meet any of the above criteria? Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.
