ESG Specialist (Commercial Credit Risk)

1) ESG Risk Assessment & Credit Support (Core)


- Conduct ESG due diligence for corporate, SME, and project finance clients—especially in high-risk sectors (Energy, Transportation, Agriculture, Manufacturing).


- Identify material ESG risks (e.g., environmental, compliance, labor issues, governance weaknesses).


- Provide ESG risk opinions to support credit approval decisions.


- Recommend ESG mitigation measures, covenants, and monitoring requirements.


2) ESG Integration into Credit Processes


- Support the incorporation of ESG risk factors into underwriting standards, credit review templates, and sector guidelines.


- Assess ESG-linked cashflow risks that may impact PD/LGD assumptions.


- Collaborate with Credit Risk, JPC-SME - Corporate Banking, and Portfolio Management to ensure consistent ESG application.


3) Portfolio ESG Analytics


- Conduct portfolio-level ESG exposure analysis (e.g., carbon-intensive clients, high flood-risk areas, sensitive industries).


- Produce ESG heatmaps, concentration insights, and early warning signals.


- Monitor clients classified under “high ESG risk” and track improvement progress.


4) Climate Risk Assessment (Qualitative / Semi-Quantitative)


- Analyze transition and physical climate risks affecting clients and sectors.


- Interpret results from climate stress tests and scenario analysis (NGFS/IPCC).


- Highlight vulnerable industries and clients for risk appetite calibration.


Remark: Do not develop climate model or coding- Since these are to develop and implement by Quant team.


5) Regulatory & Policy Support (Risk-Relevant Only)


- Support alignment with BOT climate risk guidelines, ISSB S2, TCFD-related expectations.


- Contribute ESG risk inputs to internal risk policies, sector frameworks, and audit preparation.


- Assist in regulatory reviews related to credit ESG risk—not sustainability reporting.


6) Stakeholder Advisory


- Advise relationship managers, credit analysts, and deal teams on material ESG issues and required mitigation.


- Present ESG findings to risk committees or credit committees when needed.


- Coordinate with Sustainability/Compliance teams on ESG topics relevant to credit risk.


7) Mentoring & Quality Review


- Review ESG assessments performed by junior analysts.


- Provide guidance on best practices and ESG risk identification techniques.


- Support capability building on ESG risk knowledge across the credit organization


Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Finance, Economics, Risk Management, Sustainability, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related fields.
  • 8–10 years of experience in credit risk, ESG or sustainability risk, or related financial risk areas.
  • Experience in corporate banking, project finance, or sectoral due diligence preferred.
  • Exposure to climate or transition risk frameworks is a plus.
  • Strong knowledge of ESG risk drivers and relevant standards (BOT climate risk, ISSB S2, TCFD, IFC).
  • Ability to interpret ESG data, regulatory disclosures, and credit processes.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Collaborative, adaptable, and able to influence effectively in English.
