Bangkok, in-person. It is optional to do the internship remotely. Applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely due to constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel, or access to UN premises. The internship is UNPAID and full-time.

Duties and Responsibilities
The Statistics Division’s internship is for at least three months with an opportunity for extension up to 6 months, if required by the division. Interns work five days per week (35 hours) under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned. The ESCAP Statistics Division is guided by the Fundamental Principles of Official Statistics and the Principles Governing International Statistical Activities, as well as by the work programme and the membership of ESCAP. Our mandates arise from a number of General Assembly, Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC), and ESCAP resolutions. The core areas of the Division's work include implementing programmes for capacity building in statistics, collecting and analysing data on the region, and publishing statistical and analytical publications. We work closely with the ESCAP Statistical Institute for Asia and the Pacific and organizations that are part of national statistics systems in the region (national statistical offices are our main counterparts); the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs; other United Nations entities; and with a large number of regional and international organizations that have a mandate in statistics. Ultimate result of service Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background as well as the internship period. Duties may include, but are not limited to the following. Within delegated authority, the duties of the incumbent may include the following: 1. Support the organization of webinars for sharing experiences on AI for statistics 2. Conduct research on AI-related topics and their application to official statistics 3. Support the production of a publication on the topic of AI with input from members of the DASH Team 4. Support the organizers of the work of the DASH Team 5. Perform other tasks as required. Outputs/work assignment The intern is expected to provide the following deliverables: - Support the delivery of the objectives of the DASH Team - Timely support to the DASH Team, including contacting members and following up on requests. - Draft research papers, blogs, and technical notes as needed - Participate in meetings of the section and division
Qualifications/special skills
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
Languages
English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an asset. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Interns who are not citizens or permanent residents of the country where the internship is undertaken, may be required to obtain the appropriate visa and work/employment authorization.
