INTERN - INFORMATION SYSTEMS & COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY [Temporary]

This internship is located with the Office of Information and Communications Technology (OICT), Department of Management (DM). The internship is UNPAID and full-time (five days per week for 35 hours), for a minimum duration of two (2) months and can be extended up to six (6) months. Interns will work under the supervision of a staff member in the department or office to which they are assigned.

Responsibilities
The intern will provide support to Office of Information and Communication Technology's projects and programmes. Examples of duties to be performed may include the following:
  • Provide support throughout the various stages of systems development using information technology project management methodology, including design, development, installation, systems analysis, programming, and operations support;
  • Participate in training activities, which may involve preparing training materials and user documentation, as well as compiling relevant information;
  • Support the development of strong business relationships, including coordinating responses to client requirements and delivering Office of Information and Communication Technology services and solutions;
  • Provide support to ensure the adoption of Office of Information and Communication Technology initiatives, including developing communications using design, publishing, video production software, User Interface and User experience front-end development;
  • Provide additional support to the activities of Office of Information and Communication Technology as needed, as determined by their supervisor.
  • Provide support develop user Interface and front-end user experience solutions for the various web and mobile solutions developed by OICT
  • Provide support for innovation using modern technologies such as AI, Machine Learning, Big Data, etc.
  • Perform system design and development activities for web and mobile technologies.
  • Modify and update the manual of operations to contain specific and relevant written procedures, policies, and forms to meet quality standards requirements.
  • Assist in developing and maintaining methodologies for project and resource reviews during projects or upon their completion.
  • Compile feedback on resource performance on a project and store it for future reference.
  • Perform additional activities as required to ensure the success of the work team.

Education
To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, applicants to the programme must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); or
b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
  • Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views;
  • Have demonstrated intention to study further or work in a field relevant to the work of Information and Communications Technology, Information Management, Project Management, Business Management, Marketing, Communications and/or Library Science;
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications;
  • Be familiar with cutting-edge technology and tools and/or have experience with social networking and collaboration platforms;
Work Experience

No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advance course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

Languages

English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. Fluency in spoken and written English is required for the internship. Knowledge of another official UN language is an advantage. Arabic, Chinese, English, French, Russian and Spanish are the official languages of the United Nations Secretariat.

Applicants are encouraged to clearly indicate their areas of interests and highlight their specific skills and/or experience in their cover note. They are asked to do so carefully in order to enhance the value of the internship for both themselves and the receiving UN department.

REMOTE INTERNSHIPS (COVID-19): In the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, applicants may be requested to undertake the internship remotely in view of constraints regarding visa issuance, international travel and access to UN premises. Interns are not financially remunerated by the United Nations. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.

United Nations Considerations

Candidates who have committed crimes other than minor traffic offences may not be considered for employment.
